Many years ago, the porters of the Merced met to rest and have a taco, and there was never a lack of mezcal tequila or caña to accompany. Since they had no glasses, they took a chili and cut it in half, so that the cone served as a cup, and so several "half chilies" were taken before returning to work. Since then, every individual who eats and drinks to sing and be satisfied, is said to "walk half chilies".
